ROK JCS returned of the peacetime OPCON in Dec 1994 that was previously transferred to UNC commander. The return of the peacetime OPCON laid a foundation for establishing ROK's independent OPCON system, allowing the ROK Army to increase its defense capabilities.
The ROK Army has incorporated Science-Technology Combined Combat Training to master combat skills accordingly and develop command structures. Therefore, this Science-Technology Combined Combat Training increases units' combat power and leads to a development of national defense posture in full scale.
The ROK Army participated in a myriad of oversea missions including Western Sahara medical support and Iraq Reconstruction Mission.
